George W. Bush Presidential Center Purchases Wind Energy from Green Mountain Energy Company

Dallas, TX, October 26, 2012 -- Green Mountain Energy Company is proud to announce that the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which will house the George W. Bush Institute and the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, has purchased 100 percent wind energy to power its campus. Choosing renewable energy from Green Mountain will help the center reach its goal to become a LEED® Platinum certified building. The center is scheduled to open Spring 2013.

Green Mountain will provide over 4,700 megawatt-hours (MWh) of wind renewable energy certificates (RECs) to cover the center's projected electricity consumption for two years. The renewable energy choice will avoid over 5.2 million pounds of carbon dioxide (CO₂), which is like taking 6,000 cars off the road for a month.

"The George W. Bush Presidential Center has very aggressive sustainability goals, which align well with Green Mountain's environmental mission," said Scott Hart, President of Commercial Services, Green Mountain Energy Company. "We are proud to contribute in helping the center on this important effort."

The Bush Center made its commitment to clean energy through the purchase of Green-e® certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Green Mountain. RECs are the industry standard for accounting for renewable electricity generation. Purchasing RECs in the same quantity as Bush Center's estimated electricity consumption ensures that an equal amount of electricity is added to the U.S. power grid from renewable sources and supports the continuation of these projects.

The Bush Center will be located on 24 acres of the Southern Methodist University campus in Dallas. The center will serve as an educational resource to students as it will feature the Bush Presidential Library with official records of the George W. Bush presidency; an interactive museum; and the Bush Institute, which strives to improve the human condition. The top-rated sustainability features of the Bush Center will add to the pool of pioneering resources that the center provides.
