Youngevity Begins Clinical Studies at Clemson University
July 5, 2012 -- Youngevity Essential Life Sciences, a global direct marketer of lifestyle and nutritional products and gourmet healthy coffee, will begin a series of clinical research studies at Clemson University's Institute of Nutraceutical Research (CU-INR).
The research will be coordinated by professor Chittaranjan Kole, the institute's research director and an expert in plant genomics, phytomediomics and nutriomics. T.R. Jeremy Tzeng, assistant professor of biological sciences and a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Nutraceutical Research, and Sandra L. Gray, a research specialist in the animal and veterinary sciences department, will conduct the research.
"We are very excited to be working with Clemson University to perform our clinical and research studies," said Steve Wallach, CEO of Youngevity. "From our list of top universities and academic facilities to choose from, Clemson had the greatest expertise in this area and they are consistently innovating in the areas of nutrition and nutraceuticals."
On of the leading research universities in the U.S., Clemson has more than 100 scientists working on more than 120 projects. The mission of the Institute of Nutraceutical Research is to make Clemson the national leader in nutritional research. Its goals are to develop greater confidence in product quality, effectiveness and enhance consumer demand for quality nutraceutical products. The institute is one of the most highly regarded organizations in the field of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals.
Initially the research studies will focus on specific health markers that have been shown in science and medicine to promote wellness and disease management. Youngevity's successful 90 For Life campaign, which features its signature 90 Essential Mineral blend, will be the products used primarily in the early studies. Working with the Clemson scientists and research team, Youngevity collaborated to develop studies to further evaluate the testimonials given by its distributors and customers over the years. The research also will build on the work that Youngevity co-founder Dr. Joel Wallach had been performing for 30 years.
"The Youngevity products have always been deeply rooted in explicit science and research," Wallach said. "As a physician and researcher I always used this as my ultimate guide in formulation and development. The continued research with respected and reputable academic facilities continues our commitment to provide our distributors and customers the best products."
Youngevity, a wholly owned subsidiary of AL International Inc., expects to continue to work with a variety academic and private organizations to provide further credibility to its nutraceuticals, proprietary ingredient blends and specific nutrients they are well known for. The Clemson University research will be initiated immediately and will conclude this year.
